دُعَاؤُهُ عِنْدَ خَتْمِهِ الْقُرْآنَ Upon Completing a Reading of the Qur'an 1 O God, Thou hast helped me complete Thy Book, أَللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أَعَنْتَنِي عَلَى خَتْمِ كِتَابِكَ 1 2 which Thou sent down as a light and appointed as a guardian الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَهُ نُوراً وَجَعَلْتَهُ مُهَيْمِناً 2 3 over every book Thou hast sent down, عَلَى كُلِّ كِتَاب أَنْزَلْتَهُ، 3 4 preferring it over every narrative which Thou hast recounted, وَفَضَّلْتَهُ عَلَى كُلِّ حَدِيث قَصَصْتَهُ، 4 5 a separator, through which Thou hast separated Thy lawful from Thy unlawful, وَفُرْقاناً فَرَقْتَ بِهِ بَيْنَ حَلالِكَ وَحَرَامِكَ، 5 6 a Qur'an, through which Thou hast made plain the approaches to Thy ordinances, وَقُرْآناً أَعْرَبْتَ بِهِ عَنْ شَرَائِعِ أَحْكَامِكَ، 6 7 a book, which Thou hast distinguished very distinctly for Thy servants, وَكِتَاباً فَصَّلْتَهُ لِعِبَادِكَ تَفْصِيلاً، 7 8 a revelation, which Thou hast sent down, a sending down, upon Thy prophet Muhammad (Thy blessings be upon him and his Household). وَوَحْياً أَنْزَلْتَهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّد صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ تَنْزِيلاً، 8 9 Thou appointed it a light through following which we may be guided from the shadows of error and ignorance, وَجَعَلْتَهُ نُوراً نَهْتَدِي مِنْ ظُلَمِ الضَّلاَلَةِ وَالْجَهَـالَةِ بِـاتِّبَاعِـهِ، 9 10 a healing for him who turns ear toward hearing it with the understanding of attestation, وَشِفَـاءً لِمَنْ أَنْصَتَ بِفَهْم التَّصْدِيقِ إلَى اسْتِمَاعِهِ، 10 11 a just balance whose tongue does not incline away from truth, وَمِيزَانَ قِسْط لاَ يَحِيْفُ عَنِ الْحَقِّ لِسَانُهُ، 11 12 a light of guidance whose proof is not extinguished before the witnesses, وَنُورَ هُدىً لاَ يُطْفَأُ عَنِ الشَّاهِدِينَ بُرْهَانُهُ، 12 13 and a guidepost of deliverance, so that he who repairs straightway to its prescription will not go astray وَعَلَمَ نَجَاة لاَ يَضِلُّ مَنْ أَمَّ قَصْدَ سُنَّتِهِ 13 14 and he who clings to its preservation's handhold will not be touched by the hands of disasters. وَلاَ تَنَالُ أَيْدِي الْهَلَكَاتِ مَنْ تَعَلَّقَ بِعُرْوَةِ عِصْمَتِهِ، 14 15 O God, since Thou hast given us help to recite it أَللَّهُمَّ فَإذْ أَفَدْتَنَا الْمعُونَةَ عَلَى تِلاَوَتِهِ، 15 16 and made smooth the roughness of our tongues through the beauty of its expression, وَسَهَّلْتَ جَوَاسِيَ أَلْسِنَتِنَا بِحُسْنِ عِبَارَتِهِ، 16 17 place us among those who observe it as it should be observed, فَاجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَرْعَاهُ حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهِ، 17 18 serve Thee by adhering in submission to the firm text of its verses, وَيَدِينُ لَكَ بِاعْتِقَادِ التَّسْلِيْمِ لِمُحْكَمِ آياتِهِ، 18 19 and seek refuge in admitting both its ambiguous parts and the elucidations of its clear signs! وَيَفْزَعُ إلى الإِقْرَارِ بِمُتَشَابِهِهِ وَمُوضَحَاتِ بَيِّناتِهِ. 19 20 O God, Thou sent it down upon Thy prophet أللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أَنْزَلْتَهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّكَ 20 21 Muhammad (God bless him and his household) in summary form, مُحَمَّد صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ مُجْمَلاً، 21 22 Thou inspired him with the science of its wonders to complement it, وَأَلْهَمْتَهُ عِلْمَ عَجَائِبِهِ مُكَمَّلاً، 22 23 Thou made us the heirs of its knowledge as interpreters, وَوَرَّثْتَنَا عِلْمَهُ مُفَسَّراً، 23 24 Thou made us to surpass him who is ignorant of its knowledge, وَفَضَّلْتَنَا عَلَى مَنْ جَهِلَ عِلْمَهُ، 24 25 and Thou gave us strength over it to raise us above those not able to carry it. وَقَوَّيْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ لِتَرْفَعَنَا فَوْقَ مَنْ لَمْ يُطِقْ حَمْلَهُ. 25 26 O God, just as Thou hast appointed our hearts as its carriers أللَّهُمَّ فَكَمَا جَعَلْتَ قُلُوبَنَا لَهُ حَمَلَةً، 26 27 and made known to us through Thy mercy its nobility and excellence, وَعَرَّفْتَنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ شَرَفَهُ وَفَضْلَهُ، 27 28 so also bless Muhammad, its preacher, فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد الْخَطِيْبِ بِهِ، 28 29 and his Household, its guardians, وَعَلَى آلِهِ الْخُزّانِ لَهُ، 29 30 and place us among those who confess that it has come from Thee, وَاجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَعْتَرِفُ بِأَنـَّهُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ 30 31 lest doubt about attesting to it assail us, حَتَّى لاَ يُعَارِضَنَا الشَّكُّ فِي تَصْدِيقِهِ 31 32 or deviation from its straightforward path shake us! وَلاَ يَخْتَلِجَنَا الزَّيْغُ عَنْ قَصْدِ طَرِيقِهِ. 32 33 O God, bless Muhammad and his Household أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِـهِ، 33 34 and make us one of those who hold fast to its cord, وَاجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَعْتَصِمُ بِحَبْلِهِ، 34 35 seek haven from its ambiguities in its fortified stronghold, وَيَـأْوِي مِنَ الْمُتَشَـابِهَاتِ إلَى حِرْزِ مَعْقِلِهِ، 35 36 rest in the shadow of its wing, وَيَسْكُنُ فِي ظِـلِّ جَنَاحِهِ، 36 37 find guidance in the brightness of its morning, وَيَهْتَدِي بِضَوْءِ صَباحِِهِ، 37 38 follow the shining of its disclosure, وَيَقْتَدِي بِتَبَلُّج إسْفَارِهِ، 38 39 acquire light from its lamp, وَيَسْتَصْبحُ بِمِصْباحِهِ، 39 40 and beg not guidance from any other! وَلا يَلْتَمِسُ ألْهُدَى فِي غَيْرِهِ. 40 41 O God, just as through it Thou hast set up Muhammad as a guidepost to point to Thee أللَّهُمَّ وَكَمَا نَصَبْتَ بِهِ مُحَمَّداً عَلَماً لِلدَّلالَةِ عَلَيْكَ، 41 42 and through his Household Thou hast made clear Thy good pleasure's roads to Thee, وَأَنْهَجْتَ بِآلِهِ سُبُلَ الرِّضَا إلَيْكَ. 42 43 so also bless Muhammad and his Household فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ 43 44 and make the Qur'an our mediation to the noblest stations of Thy honour, وَاجْعَلِ القُرْآنَ وَسِيلَةً لَنَا إلَى أَشْرَفِ مَنَازِلِ الْكَرَامَةِ، 44 45 a ladder by which we may climb to the place of safety, وَسُلَّماً نَعْرُجُ فِيهِ إلَى مَحَلِّ السَّلامَةِ، 45 46 a cause for our being repaid with deliverance at the Plain of Resurrection, وَسَبَباً نُجْزَى بِهِ النَّجاةَ فِي عَرْصَةِ الْقِيَامَةِ، 46 47 and a means whereby we may reach the bliss of the House of Permanence! وَذَرِيعَةً نُقْدِمُ بِهَا عَلَى نَعِيْمِ دَارِ الْمُقَامَةِ. 47 48 O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ 48 49 lessen for us through the Qur'an the weight of heavy sins, وَاحْطُطْ بالْقُرْآنِ عَنَّا ثِقْلَ الأوْزَارِ، 49 50 give to us the excellent qualities of the pious, وَهَبْ لَنَا حُسْنَ شَمَائِلِ الأَبْرَارِ 50 51 and make us follow the tracks of those who stood before Thee وَاقْفُ بِنَا آثَارَ الَّذِينَ قَامُوا لَكَ بِهِ 51 52 in the watches of the night and the ends of the day, آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَأَطْرَافَ النَّهَارِ 52 53 such that Thou purifiest us from every defilement through its purification حَتَّى تُطَهِّرَنَا مِنْ كُلِّ دَنَس بِتَطْهِيرِهِ، 53 54 and makest us to follow the tracks of those who have taken illumination from its light وَتَقْفُوَ بِنَا آثَارَ الَّذِينَ اسْتَضَـآءُوْا بِنُورِهِ، 54 55 and whom expectation has not distracted from works, cutting them off through its delusions' deceptions! وَلَمْ يُلْهِهِمُ الأَمَلُ عَنِ الْعَمَـل فَيَقْطَعَهُمْ بِخُدَعِ غُرُورِهِ. 55 56 O God, bless Muhammad and his Household أَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ 56 57 and appoint the Qur'an for us an intimate in the shadows of nights واجْعَلِ القُرْآنَ لنا فِي ظُلَمِ اللَّيالِي مُونِساً 57 58 and a guardian against the instigations of Satan and confusing thoughts, وَمِنْ نَزَغَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ وَخَطَرَاتِ الْوَسَاوِسِ حَارِساً، 58 59 for our feet an obstruction from passing to acts of disobedience, وَلأقْدَامِنَا عَنْ نَقْلِهَا إلَى الْمَعَاصِيْ حَابِساً، 59 60 for our tongues a silencer without blight preventing a plunge into falsehood, وَلأِلْسِنَتِنَا عَنِ الْخَوْضِ فِي الباطِلِ مِنْ غَيْرِ مَا آفَة مُخْرِساً، 60 61 for our limbs a restrainer from committing sins, وَلِجَوَارِحِنَا عَنِ اقْتِرَافِ الآثامِ زَاجِراً، 61 62 and for the scrutiny of heedfulness rolled up in heedlessness an unroller, وَلِمَا طَوَتِ الغَفْلَةُ عَنَّا مِنْ تَصَفُّحِ الاعْتِبَارِ نَاشِراً 62 63 such that Thou attachest to our hearts the understanding of the Qur'an's wonders حَتَّى تُوصِلَ إلَى قُلُوبِنَا فَهْمَ عَجَائِبِهِ 63 64 and its restraining similitudes which immovable mountains in all their solidity وَزَوَاجِرَ أَمْثَـالِهِ الَّتِي ضَعُفَتِ الْجِبَالُ الرَّوَاسِي 64 65 were too weak to carry! عَلَى صَلاَبَتِهَا عَنِ احْتِمَالِهِ. 65 66 O God, bless Muhammad and his Household اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ 66 67 and through the Qur'an make permanent the rightness of our outward selves, وَأَدِمْ بِالْقُرْانِ صَلاَحَ ظاهِرِنا، 67 68 veil the ideas of confusing thoughts from the soundness of our innermost minds, وَاحْجُبْ بِهِ خَطَراتِ الْوَسَاوِسِ عَنْ صِحَّةِ ضَمَائِرِنَا، 68 69 wash away the dirt of our hearts and the ties of our heavy sins, وَاغْسِلْ بِهِ دَرَنَ قُلُوبِنَا وَعَلاَئِقَ أَوْزَارِنَا، 69 70 gather our scattered affairs, وَاجْمَعْ بِهِ مُنْتَشَرَ أُمُورِنَا، 70 71 quench the thirst of our burning heat in the standing place of the presentation to Thee, وَأَرْوِ بِهِ فِي مَـوْقِفِ الْعَرْضِ عَلَيْكَ ظَمَأ هَوَاجِرِنَا، 71 72 and clothe us in the robes of security on the Day of the Greatest Terror at our uprising! وَاكْسُنَا بِهِ حُلَلَ الأَمَانِ يَوْمَ الْفَزَعِ الأكْبَرِ فِي نشُورِنَا. 72 73 God, bless Muhammad and his Household أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ 73 74 and through the Qur'an redress our lack - our destitution in poverty وَاجْبُرْ بِالْقُرْآنِ خَلَّتَنَا مِنْ عَدَمِ الإمْلاَقِ، 74 75 drive toward us the comforts of life and an abundance of plentiful provisions, وَسُقْ إلَيْنَا بِهِ رَغَدَ الْعَيْشِ وَخِصْبَ سَعَةِ الأرْزَاقِ، 75 76 turn aside blameworthy character traits and base moral qualities, وَجَنِّبْنَا بِهِ الضَّرَائِبَ الْمَذْمُومَةَ وَمَدَانِيَ الأخْلاَقِ، 76 77 and preserve us from the pit of unbelief and the motives for hypocrisy, وَاعْصِمْنَا بِهِ مِنْ هُوَّةِ الكُفْرِ وَدَوَاعِـي النِّفَاقِ 77 78 such that the Qur'an may be for us at the resurrection a leader to Thy good pleasure and Thy gardens, حَتَّى يَكُوْنَ لَنَا فِي الْقِيَامَةِ إلَى رِضْوَانِكَ وَجِنَانِكَ قَائِداً 78 79 for us in this world a protector against Thy displeasure and transgressing Thy bounds وَلَنَا فِي الدُّنْيا عَنْ سَخَطِكَ وَتَعَدِّي حُدُودِكَ ذَائِداً، 79 80 and for what is with Thee a witness by its declaring lawful the lawful and its declaring unlawful the unlawful! وَلِمَا عِنْدَكَ بِتَحْلِيلِ حَلاَلِهِ وَتَحْرِيم حَرَامِهِ شَاهِداً. 80 81 O God, bless Muhammad and his Household أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ 81 82 and through the Qur'an make easy for our souls at death the distress of the driving, وَهَوِّنْ بِالْقُرْآنِ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ عَلَى أَنْفُسِنَا كَرْبَ السِّيَاقِ، 82 83 the effort of the moaning, and the succession of the rattling, وَجَهْدَ الأنِينِ، وَتَرادُفَ الْحَشَارِجِ 83 84 'when souls reach the throats' (ref.75:26) "and it is said, 'Where is the enchanter"? (75:27)'; إذَا بَلَغَتِ ألنُّفُوسُ التَّراقِيَ وَقِيلَ مَنْ رَاق 84 85 when the angel of death discloses himself to seize them from behind the veils of unseen things, وَتَجَلَّى مَلَكُ الْمَوْتِ لِقَبْضِهَا مِنْ حُجُبِ الْغُيُوبِ، 85 86 letting loose at them from the bow of destinies the arrows of the terror of lonesome separation, وَرَمَاهَا عَنْ قَوْسِ الْمَنَايَا بِأَسْهُمِ وَحْشَةِ الْفِرَاقِ، 86 87 and mixing for them from sudden death a cup poisoned to the taste; وَدَافَ لَهَا مِنْ ذَعَافِ الْمَوْتِ كَأْساً مَسْمُومَةَ الْمَذَاقِ، 87 88 and when departure and release for the hereafter come close to us, وَدَنا مِنَّا إلَى الآخِرَةِ رَحِيلٌ وَانْطِلاَقٌ، 88 89 works become collars around the necks, وَصَارَتِ الأعْمَالُ قَلاَئِـدَ فِي الأَعْنَاقِ، 89 90 and the graves become the haven until the appointed time of the Day of Encounter! وَكَانَتِ الْقُبُورُ هِيَ الْمَأوَى إلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْمِ التَّلاَقِ. 90 91 O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ 91 92 make blessed for us the arrival at the house of decay وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي حُلُولِ دَارِ البِلَى 92 93 and the drawn out residence between the layers of the earth, وَطُولِ الْمُقَامَـةِ بَيْنَ أَطْبَـاقِ الثَّـرى، 93 94 appoint the graves, after separation from this world, the best of our waystations, وَاجْعَلِ القبُورَ بَعْدَ فِرَاقِ الدُّنْيَا خَيْرَ مَنَازِلِنَا، 94 95 make roomy for us through Thy mercy the narrowness of our tombs, وَافْسَحْ لَنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِي ضِيقِ مَلاَحِدِنَا، 95 96 and disgrace us not among those present at the Resurrection through our ruinous sins! وَلا تَفْضَحْنَا فِي حَاضِرِي الْقِيَامَةِ بِمُوبِقَاتِ آثامِنَا، 96 97 Through the Qur'an have mercy upon the lowliness of our station at the standing place of presentation to Thee, وَارْحَمْ بِالْقُرْانِ فِيْ مَوْقِفِ الْعَرْضِ عَلَيْكَ ذُلَّ مَقَامِنَا، 97 98 make firm the slips of our feet during the shaking of the bridge across hell وَثَبِّتْ بِهِ عِنْدَ اضْطِرَابِ جِسْرِ جَهَنَّمَ 98 99 on the day of passage over it, يَوْمَ الْمَجَازِ عَلَيْهَـا زَلَلَ أَقْدَامِنَا، 99 100 illuminate the darkness of our graves before the Uprising, وَنَوِّرْ بِهِ قَبْلَ الْبَعْثِ سُدَفَ قُبُورنا، 100 101 and deliver us from every distress on the Day of Resurrection وَنَجِّنَا بِهِ مِنْ كُلِّ كَرْب يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ 101 102 and from the hardships of terrors on the Day of Disaster! وَشَدَائِدِ أَهْوَالِ يَوْمِ الطَّامَّةِ 102 103 Whiten our faces on the day when the faces of wrongdoers are blackened وَبَيِّضْ وُجُوهَنَا يَوْمَ تَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهُ الظَّلَمَةِ 103 104 during the Day of Regret and Remorse, فِي يَوْمِ الْحَسْرَةِ وَالنَّدَامَةِ، 104 105 appoint love for us in the breasts of the faithful, وَاجْعَلْ لَنَا فِي صُدُورِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وُدّاً، 105 106 and make not life for us troublesome! وَلاَ تَجْعَلِ الْحَيَاةَ عَلَيْنَا نَكَداً. 106 107 O God, bless Muhammad, Thy servant and Thy messenger, أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ 107 108 just as He delivered Thy message, executed Thy command, and counselled Thy servants! كَمَا بَلَّغَ رِسَالَتَكَ، وَصَدَعَ بِأَمْرِكَ، وَنَصَحَ لِعِبَادِكَ. 108 109 O God, make our Prophet (Thy blessings be upon him أللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ نَبِيَّنا صَلَواتُكَ عَلَيْهِ 109 110 and his Household) on the Day of Resurrection the nearest of the prophets to Thee in seat, وَعَلَى آلِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَقْرَبَ النِّبِيِّينَ مِنْكَ مَجْلِساً، 110 111 the ablest of them before Thee with intercession, the greatest of them with Thee in measure, وَأَمْكَنَهُمْ مِنْكَ شَفَاعَةً، وَأَجَلَّهُمْ عِنْدَكَ قَدْراً، 111 112 and the most eminent of them with Thee in rank! وَأَوْجَهَهُمْ عِنْدَكَ جَاهَاً. 112 113 O God, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, ennoble his edifice, أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد وَشَرِّفْ بُنْيَانَهُ، 113 114 magnify his proof, make weighty his balance, وَعَظِّمْ بُرْهَانَهُ، وَثَقِّلْ مِيزَانَهُ، 114 115 accept his intercession, bring near his mediation, وَتَقَبَّلْ شَفَاعَتَهُ وَقَرِّبْ وَسِيلَتَهُ، 115 116 whiten his face, complete his light, وَبَيِّضْ وَجْهَهُ، وَأَتِمَّ نُورَهُ، 116 117 and raise his degree! Make us live according to his Sunna وَارْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ، وَأَحْيِنَا عَلَى سُنَّتِهِ، 117 118 make us die in his creed, take us on his road, وَتَوَفَّنَا عَلَى مِلَّتِهِ، وَخُذْ بِنَـا مِنْهَاجَـهُ، 118 119 make us travel his path, place us among the people who obey him, وَاسْلُكْ بِنَا سَبِيلَهُ، وَاجْعَلْنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ طَاعَتِهِ، 119 120 muster us in his band, وَاحْشُرْنَا فِي زُمْرَتِهِ، 120 121 lead us to up his pool, and give us to drink of his cup! وَأَوْرِدْنَا حَوْضَهُ، وَاسْقِنَا بِكَأسِهِ. 121 122 And bless Muhammad and his Household, أللَّهُمَّ وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ 122 123 with a blessing through which Thou wilt take him to the most excellent صَلاةً تُبَلِّغُهُ بِهَا أَفْضَلَ 123 124 of what He hopes of Thy good, Thy bounty, and Thy generosity! مَا يَأْمُلُ مِنْ خَيْرِكَ وَفَضْلِكَ وَكَرَامَتِكَ 124 125 Thou art Possessor of boundless mercy and generous bounty. إنَّكَ ذُوْ رَحْمَة وَاسِعَة وَفَضْل كَرِيم. 125 126 O God, repay him for Thy messages which he delivered, أللَّهُمَّ اجْزِهِ بِمَا بَلَّغَ مِنْ رِسَالاتِكَ 126 127 Thy signs which he passed on, the good counsel he gave to Thy servants, وَأَدَّى مِنْ آيَاتِكَ وَنَصَحَ لِعِبَادِكَ 127 128 and the struggle he undertook in Thy way, with the best Thou hast repaid وَجَاهَدَ فِي سَبِيلِكَ أَفْضَلَ مَا جَزَيْتَ 128 129 any of Thy angels brought nigh and Thy prophets sent out and chosen! أَحَداً مِنْ مَلائِكَتِكَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ وَأَنْبِيَائِكَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ. 129 130 And upon him and his Household, the good, the pure, be peace, وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ الطَّيِّبِينَ الطَّاهِرِينَ 130 131 God's mercy, and His blessings! وَرَحْمَةُ الله وَبَرَكَاتُهُ. 131 |
